posted 01/11/2010 Dear Webster Girls Softball Families,
On behalf of the WAA Girls Softball Board of Directors we would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. While the weather outside makes it hard to think about softball, our season is really just getting underway. This all volunteer Board works 12 months out of the year to prepare for the upcoming season. Our mission has always been consistent is that we are committed in offering the best possible softball experience for these young female athletes. In addition to the playing experience, our league’s overall goal is to provide the girls an environment which stresses the values of leadership, team-work, self-discipline, and cooperation. These life lessons go far beyond the playing fields.
2010 will yet bring many more overall enhancements to our programs. Below are some highlights of the upcoming season:
Winter Clinics: There are two clinics being offered this winter. One will be for the younger girls ages 9-12 and the other is for girls grades 7-12. Both clinics will be held at the Thomas Field House. Registrations for these clinics have been closed as of 12/31/09 and are at full capacity. These clinics have been very successful. The clinics focus on fundamentals of the game and several professional instructors along with both high school coaching staffs volunteer their time to teach the girls.
Walk of Fame: Beginning in 2010, there will be an opportunity for Webster Girls Softball families to leave part of their legacy to the community by ordering a brick for our “Walk of Fame”. An area in front of the snack bar has been designated to place bricks honoring our past, present, and future players, coaches, and families. More information can be found on the web by clicking here.
Annual Webster Xtreme Tournament: This event is held annually the 3rd week of July. Travel teams from all over the East Coast and Canada come to Webster to play in this tournament. Last year 36 teams participated and this year the event has already sold out. It is great opportunity for all of us to extend our hospitality and showcase of facility and community.
2010 Sponsorship Programs: Webster Girl’s Softball provides local business the opportunity to advertise via team sponsorships, fence signs, and tournament program guides. Please help our program with this very important fundraiser by promoting within some of the companies your work for. More information can be found on our web site by clicking here.
Jr Xtreme Program: An extended All-Star program or Jr Xtreme as we will now call it has been formed for the first time in 2010. The league allows those girls interested in playing additional games after the Rec season the opportunity to play other towns in a more competitive atmosphere. There will be a 10U and 12U team which tryouts are to occur the last day of the winter clinic. Players must be registered for the clinic to tryout. More information can be found on the web: click here.
Annual Golf Tournament: After a year hiatus, the annually softball golf tournament will be resurrected in 2010. This is an opportunity for our softball families to enjoy a day of golf. The event usually takes place in September. Details on the event will be announced within the next couple of months.
Field Enhancements: This is an ongoing process. Some of the complex improvements being considered include: snack bar improvements, pitcher warm up space, new bathrooms by the snack bar, enclosing the batting cages, roofs for the dugouts, and several other long term projects.
Board Announcement: Board elections occurred at our end of the year meeting in December. We would like to acknowledge a few developments:
